Dog and Scissors – 1

[HorribleSubs] Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou - 01 [720p].mkv_snapshot_16.17_[2013.07.07_13.30.21]Lol. It sure has been a long time last I blogged written anything.

I don’t even know how to write anything anymore :S

Anyway, this is second series I started this season with, and looked kinda good. Not sure what’s going on yet and I don’t read the synopsis either but looks like fun. By fun I mean both fun and fun. Yep.

On AKB0048

[EveTaku] AKB0048 - 26 END (1280x720 x264-Hi10P AAC)[00480048].mkv_snapshot_19.31_[2013.04.08_00.27.38]So, AKB0048 ended last week. I don’t even follow AKB48 but I think this went pretty good. The ending was quite epic. Over the top but still entertaining. One of best type of entertainment, IMO.

In the end, it is pretty much beyond expectation. Despite the funny voice acting at times, the songs are good because, well, that’s what they’re good at. The story was quite intriguing as well and I did look forward to it every week in the end. As expected from Satelight, I guess?

Should’ve bought their stuff during ACE last week 🙁

Windows 8 Initial Impressions

6 hours with Windows 8.

  • Metro Modern UI is shit (the applications)
  • The Start Menu (or whatever it’s called now) is ok-ish though
  • The lock screen is awesome with its customizable background image
  • The global one is difficult to change though
  • File association was updated and doesn’t work properly in at least IrfanView and 7-Zip
  • Compressed folder still exists and can be disabled the same way as Windows 7
  • So is Aero Shake. Really though, there is no more Aero but there’s still Aero Shake? Is it some kind of joke?
  • The window border is thick-ish but I guess OK for now (quick google also showed some border customizer)
  • Hyper-V is in it as promised. Works as expected. Most OS need Legacy Network Adapter (except Ubuntu and SLES) or installation of the integration driver for some OSes. The biggest plus is it works at system level – VMs can be automagically started as Windows starts
  • All applications I usually use works without problem
  • It’s not move to (top right) corner but move to corner and move down a bit
  • Updates (from Microsoft Update) which requires license agreement doesn’t work (at least on my PC)
  • There’s no discernible performance difference
  • Yes, Everything also works
  • Also, flat
  • Windows Explorer is a bit better: no more intrusive action buttons above file list (moved to the top)
  • Remote desktop work OK. There’s no more classic style but I think the new one (Modern UI) doesn’t use too much bandwidth (being flat and all)
  • WRT RDP, the 2X Client I usually use in Android doesn’t work with Windows 8. The good old Remote RDP Lite works though (and with CyanogenMod’s plain keyboard, the physical keyboard input works again)

I think that’s it for now.

On AFAID 2012

So, uh, in the end, I decided to go to this AFAID despite my current state. Due to that I got laziness fee of 100k IDR for buying two days worth of standing concert tickets (which includes stage and exhibition tickets). On the brighter side, there’s almost no queue for this type of ticket which, from what others told me, saved me two hours of queuing.

This Sengoku Collection

A lightweight series which cover one or more generals (female version, obviously) from Sengoku period who have been thrown into modern time. Basically yet another moefied historical figures anime.

What’s mind-blowing is the fact that it will be a 2-cours (26 episodes according to Wikipedia) anime. Like, how is it even possible? (perhaps because it’s produced by Brain’s Base?)

Its first opening theme (and ending) is awesome (read: fun) though.

Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger

A metaseries on Super Sentai. In short, they opened tvtropes and jammed as many tropes as they can into the series.

Head over to Over-Time to grab the releases (currently 2 episodes). Don’t forget to read the notes, too! I wish more fansubbers do this for reference-heavy series.

I’m pretty sure “Nijiyome” there is abbreviation of “nijigen yome” (2D waifu).

Accel World

I wonder what they are...

One of the hyped series for this season, spring 2012. Looks quite good. With Sunrise as production studio, I can safely expect stable animation over the series. No clear indication on how long this will be though considering the amount of its LN, I guess half-assed ending should be expected.

And yes, Black Snow Princess (aka Kuroyukihime) makes up 90+% of reason I’m watching this as of currently :>

Tinkle Artbook GET

Finally ;_;

The overall cost went through the roof because I forgot to calculate the handling fee. The total is 6000 JPY + 217k IDR (about 1mil IDR). Should’ve bought three of them to reduce shipping fee overhead.

Well, not too bad as this is my first amazon.jp purchase. Perhaps I should try using alternative store with cheaper shipping cost sometime later. Or next year once my life settles down again.

On Winter 2012

All right, I’ve finished most of Winter 2012 (I count the start of year from Winter by the way). And, um, I’m not sure where to start so I guess I’ll make it point by point for each series.

Inu x Boku SS

Best part of the show

Another nice series ended. david production sure has lots of money to burn in making different endings on various episodes.

Anyway, it ended quite nicely. The premise was simple and mostly solved by the end of this series. Another series done well by david production – too bad they aren’t doing anything (or at least as the main production team) for this (next) season. Oh well, hopefully we’ll get more interesting series from them sometime in the future.

Shakugan no Shana

So long, Shana ;_;

The first series I mostly download by myself. On weekly basis. Checking the tracker on release day back when there’s no Google Reader and TokyoTosho (or perhaps there were but I didn’t use them at the time).

I got to know Kugimin and learned term “tsundere”. Also light novels. Also Itou Noizi. Also system administration (guess how it’s related).

First season was a blast. Second season was pretty much content-less and the series of OVA didn’t add anything meaningful. Despite of them, the third – final – series certainly didn’t disappoint. Lots of things I liked on first series are back except Shana’s tsundere-ness thanks to her being much more honest than ever. Not that I hate it.

Also, great job, Eclipse (point-blank, anyone?). May the time come when I can buy the entire series’ Blu-Ray (or DVD?) – hopefully in R2.
